For UpSens, 2018 began with an incredible opportunity: we were able to present our Made in Trentino technologies at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the most important show of its kind on the planet. For three days, we were at the heart of global innovation, rubbing shoulders with major companies, successful start-ups and technological titans.
In short, it was a burst of adrenaline and excitement. But we were in good, or rather excellent, company. With us were other start-ups which had been selected for the first Italian delegation to attend the CES; around forty young and fledgling enterprises from Italy operating in a disparate range of sectors, from car-sharing to wearable tech, home robotics to help for people with disabilities.

Many of these start-ups were united by their shared focus on the individual. This is the true essence of the UpSens philosophy. Our aim, in fact, is to contribute to improving the well-being and quality of life of people through our stylishly designed sensors with state-of-the-art technology. They can measure the healthiness of the air or the level of electrosmog in indoor environments , such as houses, offices, hotels and spas.
During CES, we realised that the combination of “Italian start-up” and “well-being” was a winner in the eyes of many foreign professionals. This is because Italy is seen as a land of beauty, good health and well-being: Italian food is highly revered, the cities and villages of the country are magnificent and on a human scale, the quality of life in Italy is (often) very enviable.
European operators also valued the fact that we are a start-up from Trentino. On one hand, Trentino is known for its pure, unspoiled nature; on the other, it is emerging as a European innovation hub. Of course, Trento is not Silicon Valley but it does offer the perfect ecosystem for anyone who, like us, is focussed on technologies for health and well-being.

Overall, our sensors attracted a lot of interest at the Las Vegas show and we made many contacts with enormous business potential. Among the aspects that professionals and investors at CES most appreciated was the modularity of the UpSens range and its Italian design. Our sensors are precise, small and extremely easy to use whilst also being nice to look at (thanks to our designer Simone Simonelli).
What more is there to add? It was a fantastic challenge to take part in CES 2018 and to come face to face with all those investors, technologists and professionals from every corner of the planet. It was absolutely worth the trip and it is an experience that we very much hope to repeat next year!
